REVERB

New Years Eve Day, 2019, I walked into Beyond Studios, a recording studio in Chelsea, NYC, to begin what has become one of the most fulfilling and creative projects I’ve ever been a part of. REVERB is an experimental art installation and performance created by NYC based artist Pearlyn Lii.

In 2020 we were all gaining our bearings, moving through the world not knowing what would become of society and life itself.

In 2021, that recording session blossomed. We moved into the opportunity to record and film in Nokia’s Bell Labs’ Anechoic Chamber throughout 2021’s pandemic. Ironically a space with no sound, and with our small team, few people. The perfect pandemic oasis to stay creative during a time when creation felt like it was dying. We moved between Pearl Studios in Manhattan and Nokia Bell Labs.

Here is the link to Pearlyn’s article about why she created this piece. I’d give it a read.

Since 2021, REVERB has been performed at MoMA, Google, and the New York Times. It has also been made into a short film.
